Lucio Carvalho

For the first time in Italy, after a series of major awards both at home and abroad, come the surprising chests of wonders created by Lùcio Carvalho.

They seem to come from the past and hidden time of memory, but they sparkle like alien objects. And the artist is archaeologist and inventor simultaneously. Like a scientist, he collects fragments of past and future, real and invented objects. Changing their proportions, playing with the unexpected, subverting the natural order, immobilizing under a crystal and always stopping what should move.

The inspiration certainly comes from the past: it is from the past that the "fragile things" that the artist preserves come to us: under the panes of his crystal-wunderkammer, ruthlessly illuminated in his lightboxes, stopped in the digital images of his colorful montages. So many objects, so many emotions, stored in the imaginary archive, which becomes real, physical, of memory.

Looking at Lùcio Carvalho's works, one immediately notices the years dedicated by the artist to industrial design, fashion, advertising: universes that are perceived as constant references, especially in the computer image elaborations: hyper-realistic compositions of faces and bodies mixed with toys, jewelry and everyday objects, useful and useless, but also in the incredible glass cases and glazed furniture, printed on glass and magnified by an internal light (backlight).

These are real stories told in pictures and saved forever from oblivion and preserved for the future. Says the artist, " When you are a child, you are given toys that are put aside for when you are older, when you are old enough to play with them.

The same happens with precious crockery that is saved for special occasions. The problem is that emotions are also put aside for the future." Surrealist, hyper-realist, pop-artist or even baroque, sometimes the artist's inspirations come from distant worlds and are characterized by Technicolor colors: vibrant, charged, ucid and strong.

The rest is dream, imagination, fun.
